7 Locations to Take Engagement Photos in San Antonio, TX for 2023

There are a lot of well known engagement photo locations around the San Antonio area such as The Peral, Japanese Tea Garden, San Antonio Botanical Garden, The Missions, and Hays Street Bridge.  I want to focus on some lesser known locations that can provide for great settings, wonderful views, and a more intimate atmosphere.  These are our top 7 spots in the area for great engagement photos.

Riverwalk

Rivewalk Engagement Photo

"Intimate atmosphere" is probably not the first thought when talking about Downtown San Antonio and the Riverwalk.  Of course the touristy area of the Riverwalk is packed with crowds, but out on the fringes, away from the well traveled areas, is a wonderful setting waiting to be enjoyed.  There are so many options and opportunities to not only get some great photos, but also enjoy the architecture, river, and scenery that is often missed by locals and tourists alike.

Hot Wells Springs

Hot Wells is an unknown jewel...well not anymore, but for now we'll try to keep it as quiet as possible.  This is a location that is rich with history and offers one of the most unique looks in the San Antonio area.  Along the Mission Reach of the Riverwalk, Hot Wells sits waiting to be explored, enjoyed, and marveled at.  Don't worry we'll take some photos of yall as well.  The old structure sits in ruins but it has been recently renovated to an urban look that makes a fantastic backdrop.  The way the evening sun falls across the park is gorgeous and it makes for a photo shoot you will never forget.

Overlook Park

Unfortunately Overlook Park is not in San Antonio, but it is definitely worth the drive. The park sits at the top of Canyon Lake damn and provides breathtaking opportunities for amazing photos.  The Park is positioned perfectly to take advantage of the setting sun year round.  The only thing that can make this spot better is some partly cloudy skies at sunset to bring the ultimate dramatic flair to your photos.  If you love water and sunsets then this should be first on your list.

Zedler Mill

Zedler Mill is another great spot for water and sunsets.  Sitting along the San Marcos River in Luling this is a historic mill that blends a rustic charm with a modern wedding venue.  Wonderful views of the water and sunset make it a great location and the setting provides a variety of looks that couples love.  This setting is a bit of a drive from San Antonio, but I would certainly choose Zedler Mill over the crowds at The Perl.

Blue Star Arts Complex

Blue Star Arts Complex is a mix of art studio space and boutique dinning/shopping with an atmosphere all its own.  The fact that it sits along the Riverwalk means the location has a diverse look from urban to nature all within a few steps.  If you want lots of options and the ability to have a wonderful dinner after the shoot Blue Star is the spot for you.

Cibolo Nature Center

Located in the Boerne area, this nature preserve presents the ultimate in variety within an outdoor setting. Wonderful open views of the horizon make for incredible sunset photos, while the tall cypress tress along the creek create a moody and striking atmosphere. This is a location you are sure to love and the photos there are guaranteed to be gorgeous.

Crescent Bend Nature Park

Crescent Bend presents a setting much like Cibolo Nature Center but is much closer to San Antonio.  Located in Cibolo, on the NE side of town Crescent Bend has many of the same features with Cibolo Creek running through it and some nice open views of the sunset.  For nature lovers this park is a jewel right on the edge of San Antonio and the photography opportunities there are fantastic.
